Southport is the Gold Coast CBD, and cars here spend their days on the street rather than in a garage. Metered bays along Nerang Street, Scarborough Street and the Broadwater Parklands frontage mean full day exposure to sun, salt and incidental contact, from door dings to trolley marks to bumper scuffs in tight parallel bays.
The Broadwater matters more than people expect. It is tidal salt water, and the breeze carries across the parklands into the streets behind Marine Parade, so Southport paint sees a genuine marine load without being beachfront.
Combine that with cars parked outside the university, the hospital precinct and the courts all day and you get a suburb where both heat and corrosion protection earn their keep. We are about ten minutes west at Arundel.

Southport cars carry the marks of a working CBD. Bird dropping etching is the most common single complaint, and it is a genuine chemical problem rather than a cleaning one. Droppings are acidic, and in summer sun they bake into the clear coat within hours and leave a shallow crater that no amount of washing will lift. Metered bays under trees along Nerang Street and around the parklands are where we see it worst.
The second is edge and panel contact. Parallel bays in a busy centre mean door dings, trolley marks near the shopping strips, and bumper scuffs from tight kerbside manoeuvres. Most of the surface marks polish out. The dents do not, and that is a panel shop job rather than ours.
The third is a slow salt load from the Broadwater. It is tidal salt water and the breeze carries aerosol across the parklands into the streets behind Marine Parade. It is milder than beachfront exposure, but over a couple of years unprotected paint here still shows the dulling and water spotting you would expect from a coastal car.

Ceramic tint for the heat and UV, and a coating if you want the paint to survive the constant contamination that street parking brings. Bird droppings, tree sap, dust and salt all land on it. On coated paint, droppings that would etch bare clear coat within hours usually wipe off cleanly.
Similar in kind, milder in degree. The Broadwater is salt water and the breeze carries spray and salt aerosol inland, so Southport cars do show water spotting and clear coat dulling. It is just slower than a car parked at Main Beach or The Spit.

Faster than most people expect. In direct summer sun the acid concentrates as the moisture evaporates, and etching can begin within a few hours. If you can remove it the same day with water and a soft cloth you will usually get away with it. Left over a weekend on a hot car, it often leaves a mark that needs machine polishing.
