Ormeau is a commuter suburb, and the cars here rack up highway kilometres in a way that beachside Gold Coast cars simply do not. A daily run to Brisbane and back is roughly a hundred kilometres, most of it at 110 on the M1, and the northern stretch through Yatala and Stapylton is one of the busiest freight corridors in the state.
That produces a specific kind of damage. Stone chipping across the bonnet leading edge, mirrors and A pillars, plus a fine tar and brake dust film that builds along the lower doors and rear bumper.
Highway driving also means hours facing into low morning and afternoon sun, so glare and cabin heat come up more often with Ormeau customers than almost anywhere else we service. We are twenty minutes south at Arundel, straight down the M1.
Carbon XP at $395, Ceramic IR at $595 and Evolve IR Ceramic at $895. For a daily M1 run the number that matters is infrared rejection, because that is the radiant heat you feel through the side glass.
Three coatings, $995 over eight years through to $1,795 over ten. On a commuter car the payoff is chemical resistance, so tar, diesel film and brake dust release under a hose instead of needing solvent.
Highway film gets decontaminated chemically and mechanically before anything else happens. If it has been left long enough to dull the paint, a correction stage goes on top, quoted from $100 for the first hour.
Highway kilometres change which film makes sense. Carbon XP at $395 blocks 60 per cent of heat and suits a second car. For a daily M1 run we fit Ceramic IR at $595 or Evolve IR Ceramic at $895, because infrared rejection is what you feel with the sun on the side glass for an hour each way. Lifetime warranty across all three, shade at no extra cost. The numbers are on our window tinting page.
Coatings run $995 over eight years through to $1,795 over ten. For a commuter the value is chemical resistance, so tar, diesel film and brake dust release under a hose instead of a solvent. Paint correction is separate, from $100 for the first hour. Full detail on our ceramic coating page.
Everything happens at the Arundel workshop, twenty minutes down the M1, and combined jobs are scheduled together.
Ormeau cars arrive with a very consistent pattern. A sandblasted leading edge on the bonnet, chipping on the mirrors and A pillars, and a dull grey film along the lower doors and rear bumper that will not come off with a normal wash. That film is tar, diesel residue and brake dust bonded to the clear coat, and it is the signature of a car doing serious highway kilometres on the northern M1.
The second thing is heat fatigue in the cabin. A commuter car sits in a park and ride or an office car park all day, then gets driven home into afternoon sun. Steering wheels crack, dash tops warp slightly at the edges, and the driver seat bolster fades faster than the rest of the interior.
We should be straight about the stone chips. Nothing we fit stops them. Chip resistance needs a physical film and paint protection film is not a service we offer. What a coating does is keep the paint around those chips clean and glossy, and make the highway film release instead of grinding in.
The things our commuter customers ask us most.
A ceramic coating handles the chemical side. Tar, diesel film, bug residue and brake dust stop bonding to the clear coat and wash off instead of needing solvent. It will not stop stone chips, and we would rather tell you that up front than oversell it. What it does do is stop the paint around those chips dulling from constant highway grime.
For daily M1 driving we generally point people at the Ceramic IR at $595 or the Evolve IR Ceramic at $895. The difference is infrared rejection, 70 per cent plus against 95 per cent plus, and infrared is what you actually feel as radiant heat with the sun on your side window. Carbon XP at $395 blocks 60 per cent of heat and is excellent value for a car doing shorter trips.
Queensland allows 35 per cent light transmission on the front side windows. Because our films work on UV and infrared rather than just darkness, a legal 35 per cent ceramic film gives you most of the heat benefit with no compliance risk, and we do not charge extra for shade. For a car doing two hours a day on the highway, the front windows are where you feel it.
Yes. Tar and industrial fallout are decontaminated chemically and mechanically before any coating goes on. If the film has been left long enough to dull the paint, a correction stage is added on top, from $100 for the first hour.
Tint is a same day job, generally two to four hours depending on the vehicle, and you should leave the windows up for a couple of days while the adhesive cures. Ceramic coating is a multi day booking because correction, coating and cure each need their own window. We will give you an exact timeframe when you book.
Yes. Ormeau, Ormeau Hills, Pimpama, Coomera and Yatala all sit inside our regular northern service area, and everything is carried out at the Arundel workshop.
No. A ceramic coating is a chemical barrier a few microns thick and it will not absorb the impact of a stone at 110km/h. Anyone telling you otherwise is overselling. What it does do is stop tar, bug residue and brake dust bonding, keep the surrounding paint from dulling, and make the car far easier to keep clean between washes.
For a two hour daily commute, usually yes. The Ceramic IR at $595 rejects over 70 per cent of infrared and the Evolve at $895 rejects over 95 per cent. On a short suburban trip you would struggle to tell them apart. With the sun on your side window for an hour each way, the difference is the one people actually comment on afterwards.
Yes. Tint is a same day job of roughly two to four hours, so an early drop off and an afternoon pick up works for most people. Coating is a multi day booking because correction and cure time cannot be compressed. Tell us your schedule when you book and we will fit the work around it.
