We are at Arundel, about forty minutes north of Coolangatta. It is a longer run than most, so we book southern end cars in early and turn them around the same day rather than have you drive it twice.
Coolangatta has a problem the rest of the coast does not have to the same degree, and that is salt. Living that close to the water means salt sitting on the paint constantly, and salt is what dulls clear coat and starts corrosion in the panel gaps and around the badges. A ceramic coating gives the salt a hard surface to sit on instead of the paint, and it rinses off rather than bonding on.
The airport is the other factor. Cars left in long term parking sit in open bitumen in full sun and salt air for days or weeks at a time, which is about the harshest thing you can do to a car short of parking it on the sand.

Coolangatta sits at the far southern end of the Coast with beaches on two sides, and cars here get a heavier salt load than almost anywhere we service. The signature is a chalky haze on horizontal panels that people often mistake for dirt. It is not. It is salt and mineral deposit that has bonded to the clear coat and begun to etch, and washing will not shift it once it reaches that stage.
Airport parking adds a second pattern. Cars left in long stay lots for a week or two sit uncovered in salt air with nobody rinsing them, and they come back with exactly the etching described above plus a layer of baked on organic contamination. A fortnight is long enough to do real damage in summer.
The third is interior fade, which is worse here for a simple reason. There is very little natural shade near the beachfront streets, so cars sit in unbroken sun. Dash tops, door cards and leather bolsters all go before the paint does on a well kept car.

Yes. Salt is hygroscopic, so it holds moisture against the surface, and that is what flattens clear coat and starts corrosion in the seams and around badges. It is the single biggest reason coastal cars age faster than inland ones.
A ceramic coating, because the problem is what settles on the paint while you are away rather than what happens while you drive. A coated car washes clean when you get back instead of needing to be scrubbed.
If you are only doing one, coating first for a car in that environment. Tint protects the interior, and the coating protects the surface that salt actually attacks.

The car is with us longer than a tint job because the paint has to be corrected first and the coating needs time to cure properly. We will give you exact timing when we quote it.
Wash it first, and if it is coated, that is most of the job done. The problem with long stay parking is not the time itself but that contamination lands and then bakes on with nobody removing it. A clean, protected surface gives salt and organics far less to bond to, so what does land tends to come off on the first wash back.
Dirt sits on top and comes off with a wash. Salt and mineral haze has begun bonding to the clear coat, so it survives washing and looks like the paint itself has gone flat. The test is simple. If the panel still looks dull after a proper wash and dry, it needs decontamination and probably machine correction rather than more cleaning.
